First felt a bit numb and couldn’t seem to connect. After a short while I noticed my heart and breath and then clear thoughts about the acts of kindness I need right now followed. 🙏🙂
My chest relaxed and I felt a warming in my mind. A gentle , “Mona Lisa” smile crossed my face. I added my other hand on top of the first hand and I became even more calm and compassionate to myself.
Felt so much compassion for myself as I realised I have been doing the best I can and that despite hurting others my intention is not malicious but more self protective.
Dr. Brach’s approach nurtures me like a kind and loving mother. The feeling of letting myself be mothered again prompts such liberating acceptance of the me that just is, and is not strangled or condemned by my self-criticism.
A technical comment.. please have Tara without the music. I find it very distracting and takes from the power and clarity of her important message.
Thank you for sharing Tara’s wisdom at no cost. I truly value her work and benefit from it. I am as always very grateful for this kindness.
Respectfully
Sandy
Thank you Tara!! I love always your talks and practices/meditations!
Feelings that came up: Soothness, warmth, peace, tenderness…
An inner pause
Words than came up: “I see you” “I take care of you” “I love you”
How will I use it: I have to think how to use it first, but I think that it can be very useful to introduce it, step by step, in the mindful practice that it is given to teachers at a school in Mexico every week. I have to think a process that help them to realize that some of the problems in their relationships with the kids are rooted in this intimate and hurting feeling of not being good enough… and their capacity to develop a path to nurturing.
Great techniques. I had forgotten that Mindfulness could be used to just observe thoughts. Lately I’ve been using Mindfulness to help observe self in time/space. Also I found helpful – the reminder – to contact the feelings and allow them to be just as they are – asking what is under them and name them. Thank you.
I’m aware of a deep grief in my heart. I’m dealing with terminal cancer and I think I’m grieving for the loss of my life with my family. Especially my wife. I think loving my grief and myself will help me honestly talk to my people. Also remember to live now while we can. Thank you so much for this Tara.
Gestured of kindness is emotionally moving, helping me to see that I can take time out to remind me who I am and what I need. Therefore it had a calming influence on me. Thank you Tara.
Ouch! This is suffering! While listening to this video a souvenir surfaced. Infant there were no place for feelings like sickness, fears, shyness, tiredness or any form of vulnerability. I just touched the reason I could not go deeper in the self compassion practices! – When there is narcissism Kindness is not possible. I now know (in my heart) continuyng practices even if only little results, is capital! Thank you so much Tara!
I love that I can give my self permission to be loving & kind to myself. Raised in a home where it was considered selfish to think of yourself, an imprint I didn’t realize was a false & limiting belief. It’s nice to know I can comfort my inner child, all by myself, & that it’s ok to do so. She loves connecting with the loving kindness that’s in both of us. Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom & loving kindness with all of us. What a gift! Many blessings
Thank you again for giving me the time and help needed to try out this simple practice.
I was delighted to find a smile washing across my face as I told myself ‘I love you’. I thought this was going to be tough and was a little bit scared of what might arise, so imagine my delight, I actually felt lighter: fascinating.
Thank you 🙏
I found the wave analogy very helpful, and felt an overall softening towards myself.
Many of us have hardened our resolve and created very high expectations of ourselves during the challenges of COVID, and now again with the threat and anxiety of war in Europe. This is exactly the kind of work that reconnects us with our own humanity, which we all, therapists and clients alike, need so much. Thank you for this kind offering, Tara.
thank you so much for this talk! When I put my hand on my heart & told myself that I care, I started to cry as I was sad that I was so harsh with myself. Realizing this made me cry & now I feel somewhat as a weight lifted off my shoulders.
I enjoyed your thoughtful presentation
Your depth of experience & compassion were communicated through your choice of words & syntax
I got the message that the task you set were achievable
I did find the music & sound effects distracting & drew me away from the experience that you were taking to me
Thank you for making this rechording available, I have set it to a friend
It compelled me to take a deep breath and relax and truly feel that all is well, that I’m ok, that everything is and will be ok.
For me, doing that is far more effective than indulging in a glass of wine! And less expensive too. Thank you! 🙂
