As I said “Hello sweetheart” and “I’m here for you “ I felt warmth radiating from my heart, creating a sense of expansiveness, calm, and relaxing of the muscles in my neck and shoulders. I felt seen, cared for, and more than that, worthy of being noticed.
This is such a good reminder of how easily I can forget about tending to my own needs as I focus on the needs of others.
Question for self: “If I forget about being present with myself, how does that impact my ability to be present with others?”
I have found that being grateful for what I have and what I do and can do has a connection to self-acceptance and self-compassion, and then compassion for others. Gratitude to the universe and focusing on what we have and not on what we do not have, focusing on the positive and not on the negative, is connecting to positive energy and self-acceptance and self-compassion, and to positive feelings towards others.
I love these videos. They motivate me to think about how I am working with my clients. Thank you Tara Brach.
I noticed how difficult it was for me to sustain the loving, kind feelings as I quickly became angry and resentful toward so many negative experiences in my past. I encouraged myself to free from those and to move through them and thus to stay in a loving place longer. I felt worthy and important in being. It was calming and quieting. Thank you.
Acceptance came up. I have shared these videos with some of my clients. They re-affirm some of what I have explored with them in session but the in the moment 3 step process makes it easily accessible.
Thanks for sharing these videos an understandings.
I love your videos I used one of the self compassion with a client and she love it. I want to learn more applying to myself first because I deal with negative thoughts of self worth sometimes due to my past relationship.
Once again Tara, you take us to places of beauty and calm! Making a, “…space for the waves…”. It really is a process to move beyond the rock ledge and around the corner to where the waves can wash ashore in full splendor. Gratitude.
It’s hard to send out feelings of caring to myself, because I do not feel worthy of care. That has been changing, though, as I accept gestures of caring from others. Thank you for this series.
Dr Tara Brach illustrates the relationship between temporary strong emotions and coping ways of mindful acknowledgment and gestures of self compassion.
It is when when negative emotions of fear are acknowledged as ”this is suffering” that helps individuals mindfully contact the emotions.
Negative emotions are just part of ourselves ‘not the whole of ourselves’ so we should treat them with loving compassion . It could a gesture of heart compassion and openness by giving a loving suggestion to ourselves/others.
By simply placing our hand (gesture) to our heart we should communicate a loving suggestion/message.
Beautiful love Beautiful Mind synchronising the body speech and mind , how lucky we all are we have this precious Human Life. Thank-you warmly Tara for your lovely presentation, while listening to your voice and presentation, I felt the calmness in my nervous system thanking myself how grateful I am that I gave myself this gift of meditation and mindfulness training in my life and it is a daily part of my life to set time free to meditate and befriend my body speech and mind, letting go, taming the ego, reflect, contemplate and cultivate compassion. Placing my hand on my heart/body parts that ache is something I use frequently on the cushion and also off the cushion, helps me to bring warmth and relief in the moments of distress.

I work in a hospital as a transporter and have lots of patient contact. Mindfullness helps me stay centered and grounded. I still struggle with self acceptance issues even after lots of therapy…very glad to experience these vids. Thanx!
It remains difficult as I feel unworthy to receive any gesture of lovingkindness. It seems I feel It is a wasting time gesture, a way of inefficiency, like I should be able to perform in ways economically or in service to others instead of being self centered.

yes, altho, i would liketo see a softening of holding & blokcing first….
for me at that time feelings that were accessible or feelings of self abandonment
I felt a genuine opening and softening of my heart towards myself – a warmth. And although I felt the start of tears they just faded and the warmth continued – thank you ?
I found myself smiling, a softening in my heart, a feeling of deep relief in my whole body, letting go. Deeper presence. Thank you Tara, I love your profound heart-centred practices.
I agree that loving ourselves is crucial to the development of engaging in healthy relationships. Getting there through mindfulness seems to be the foundation of this path. Tara is a true gift to our world!
I have recently begun doing this gesture of my hand over my heart while speaking encouragement, care and love to myself. If I have gone a whole day without taking a moment to do it, and sometimes even if I have already done it, I do it at the end of my day. Right after brushing my teeth before bed, I look in the bathroom mirror – hand on heart, looking into my own eyes, into my own cracked, but loving and lovable soul, and say, “I love you”. It’s done wonders.
Dear Tara, sending loving kindness to myself makes me feel sad as I am not used to doing so…. it feels really good, but I seem to forget so quickly. Thank you so much for your teachings. Love from Germany, Julia
The three-step approach really resonates with me. Thank you.
I have a question: More often than not, my self-defeating beliefs are subconscious, and I feel a need to work on my subconscious thoughts by using methods like vertical arrow technique in CBT or Byron Katie’s Work. Do you have recommendations on how to unearth core beliefs?
(I totally understand that you can’t possibly respond to all the questions. )
Thank you For providing tools for freedom. I felt like a stranger to myself. If I could only be as kind and forgiving to myself as I am to my friends, my patients my family I would begin to heal within. I will practice and practice bc I’ve spent decades believing the lies!
i find it really hard to self accept it makes me want to cry ive always felt like im an outsider sitting by myself or with my animals watching others. I feel invisible sometimes especially at work never acknowledged by those who i help ie my boss and other management people
Very helpful having process broken into 3 steps, & also the reminder of the necessity to repeat process over & over again because self-judgement has been entrenched for so long. Thank you, Tara
I am a coach and I encourage my mentees to meditate. I have been recommending Tara for some time. This felt like an especially relevant topic so I wanted to watch and learn so that I could be useful to others. And for myself too!
I practice this a lot since I’ve discovered self-compassion practice.
Usually a real tenderness for myself and remembering my goodness.
As you say in the video, the more self-compassion and acceptance i offer myself, the more I am able it to others, including those with whom i am experiencing some tension or difficulty. A lot of freedom in this experience. Does require daily practice.

Sweet sadness. The kind of emotion felt at weddings or seeing newborn babies. The need to tear up without feeling negative.
