Hi Tara,
My name is Geoff and I live in Ireland. Not too far from the famous Hill of Tara!
I enjoy all your talks so much. I have a life long stutter . At age 11 I was sent to a children’s hospital / home in Dublin for a year in an attempt to cure it. As a result of this and bad times in school my self esteem was and still is quite low. I do practice mindfulness and staying with the feelings etc. Your talks have helped me greatly but I’m not sure how to advance my healing further.
I would be more social and engaging breaking down the wall in my heart caused by my behavior change from my brain tumor. I love to meet people and learn about them, but now I’m afraid due to my brain injury. Help in Canada is lacking with horrid wait lists up to a year-and-a-half to see a neuropsychologist. Thank you Tara for helping me.
I have a lot of fear and, yes there are some glimpses of who I’d be without it. Its a complicated path ahead. I will try the “real but not true” I can see how that makes sense.
I would free. I would be willing to take more risks and be more adventurous. If I let go of the fear of judgment and not belonging, I would be more authentic, more myself.
I have just discovered mindfulness. It seems to be just what I need, and it also seems like a hellofalot to absorb! But I’m sooo grateful for having discovered it.
I would be much stronger, happier, self secured and more given towards other people. I would criticize less, understand more, excpect nothing and be happy with what I have at the moment
Without fear I would be a calm person, I would be ok in my skin. I would express my talents in a more direct and easy way. I would go and speak to the people that I find interesting without hesitation and I would be myself. I would move towards the things that inspire me in an easy and direct fashion, without shame that I am not good enough to have them or that I should want something else. Without fear I would sing louder and play my music smoother. I would articulate how I feel and what I truly want straight on. I would be less tired without fear, I would not need so much effort to work or to make something happen, self doubt is awfully tiring. I could possibly do great things without fear, opening up to the world with clear intention and my energy truly focused. I would be free to make mistakes free to dream and show myself as I am, I would be less of a perfectionist and more a sincere lover of life. I would build my business and invite my clients freely and openly, without hesitations. I would be authentic and powerful.
I realized a few years ago that I do live in constant fear of this or that… like a tape running parallel to reality… for example I was taking a walk with husband when on the trail ahead we’re 2 walkers with dogs. I had automatic fear husband would be bitten, there would be no space at the hospital due to COVID and we would be struggling to get him care. When I realized that fear, I shared with husband and found myself realizing how automatic, complete, real and silly the fear was… this process happens many times a day…
I am a forensic nurse and care for victims of sexual assault. The most common reaction that patients have to the their assault is that they in some way caused it. It undermines their healing. I do all I can to persuade them otherwise but perhaps using this “Real but not true” advice for them would be beneficial. Thank you for all your kindness and insight.
