I believe that I would be far less anxious if I could let go of judgment and chronic blame. The anxiety I frequently feel interferes with my ability to think clearly and calmly, and I then feel more anxious, and so on. I hope that practising some self-compassion and kindness may give me some peace.
I love the picture you painted of the dog with their leg caught. It’s so difficult to see that when we are scared ourselves. I can feel this will take practise to accept the scared feelings and let go of the judgment so I can become a more loving being, rather than needing to shield myself from danger that is no longer there.
It was Mother’s Day yesterday, here in the UK. I’d organised a family gathering on Zoom, which went well enough – but during the night, the anger, pain and rage in my heart prevented sleep. I could see the tears behind all this ‘buried’ feeling. After years of therapy and spiritual practice, it’s always a painful realisation when these feelings return that I haven’t forgiven. Haven’t moved on from the wounds inflicted over the unconscious years; nor been able to bring sufficient compassion to the empathy which means I feel others’ pain as my own at times. I knew that the person I was hurting the most with these feelings was myself – and that sometimes brings self-judgement. Compassion can elude me in the midst of the pain, but the U-Turn practice was powerful and allowed greater feelings of safety within which to open my heart to the sadness and pain there. And begin to release this. It’s liberating not needing anyone else to change, nor the past to be different… but to meet these painful feelings with compassion and acceptance is a profound act of love and healing
and I can feel the peace that this leads to.

My logical brain tells me I haven’t’ done anything wrong and loved ones have always looked confused if I judge myself harshly and tell me I am a good person.
My internal critic shows up as a sensation of tightness in my chest and a wordless feeling that I have done something terribly wrong. Placing my hand on my heart does help and your words have made me want to explore this further. Would be so nice if my body could somehow sync with my brain 🙂

What an interesting step from resentment to self-compassion! Strangely, I had not really recognized that there is a feeling of hurt that fuels resentment. Listening to this video I understood at once that if one can alleviate the pain of hurting, the resentment can disappear. Fascinating! Thank you
